Despite everyone in Wichita loving the Wichita Wind Surge mascot and name from the very beginning, our baseball friends have come out with a few alternate identities:

Turbo Tubs, Tumbas Vacas, Chili Buns

The newest identity is the Wichita Honkers who will take the field May 2 & 3rd, July 11th, and September 8th!

Together with Wichita State University

I graduated from Wichita State University about a decade ago… and wow, has it changed.

The Braeburn Golf Course is now Braeburn Square (with several awesome restaurants).
The Innovation Campus didn’t exist.
And there are two Starbucks now.

This isn’t your dad’s Wichita State. Honestly, it’s not even my Wichita State. This is the new and improved WSU.

So if you’re a high school senior, or know one, don’t miss the 2026–27 Freshman Scholarship deadline on March 1. There’s plenty to go around.

There is a lot of great work happening in Wichita.

An example is the new OneRise Health Campus which will address mental health and housing needs in Wichita.

Thanks to two separate donations of $1 million each, this is one step closer to coming to life. Big shout out to the Feilmeier family and the Lange family.

Black History Month

Exploration Place is highlighting African American STEM Leaders with an Outdoor Display for the 5th consecutive year. Week 1 honors Harold Miller who is a U.S. Navy veteran who in 1970 became the first African American to serve as an air traffic controller in the Wichita tower. Eventually, he was promoted to supervisor in the central region.

Water Conservation Rebate

If you’re like me, you always forget about the rebates like at Menards. I mean to use them, but always forget.

Family Feud

The Barber Family from Wichita went on Family Feud and their episode aired last week.

Well apparently they did amazing because they came home winning $20k and will appear on another episode on Monday 2/9 at 5pm.

As much as I dislike the New England Patriots, I might be rooting for them this weekend…

Homeless Count

The United Way completed their count of our homeless neighbors in Wichita last week with help from 100+ volunteers.

Last year, the count was 736 people without housing. Final count is TBD.

Everyone knows not to speed through Eastborough.

Apparently not everyone knows to not drive through the Eastborough sign.
