Opening Weekend

We made it people!

Our hometown team kicked off the 2026 season last night at Equity Bank Park!

Whether you are most excited for the team itself, giveaways, cheap dogs and brews, or the fun promos, the Wind Surge are ready for an amazing year.

Tonight they’ve got a Rally Towel Giveaway and Fireworks. Tomorrow you can head to Wichita’s largest Egg Hunt, come down for the Retro Videogame Jersey Auction, AND come for the bucket hat giveaway.

The fun doesn’t stop there.

It is also opening weekend for some of the local farmers markets! Old Town Farm and Art Market and the Kansas Grown! Farmers Market both kick off tomorrow as well! (the Andover Market will kick off in May)

Are you an artist interested in public art, but not sure where to start?

The City of Wichita has a toolkit available to help guide you through the process. The toolkit showcases the step-by-step process on how to submit a proposal or your interest in an upcoming public art project.

There are also editable templates for resumes, a letter of interest, and references along with short video tutorials from Wichita artists sharing how to prepare your materials and find open calls.

You can also learn about the City's public art collection, how to join the public artist registry, and how the Percent for Art Ordinance works by visiting Wichita.gov/publicart.

Artemis II

We’re heading back to the moon! Whether you think we walked on the moon 50+ years ago or if you think it was a hoax, we’re about to see what NASA is made of.

Artemis II took off on Wednesday and will do a figure 8 around the moon which is set to kick off the new frontier for America space exploration.

Why is this relevant to Wichita?

D-J Engineering has been working on the program since 2017, building, engineering, and manufacturing different parts for the mission.

Burn Ban

If you have a burn pile you’ve been waiting to burn…you’ll have to wait a bit longer because there is now a burn ban in effect for Wichita (as part of Sedgwick County).

I Hear America Singing

Join the Wichita Chamber Chorale next weekend on 4/10 and 4/12 for their I Hear America Singing show.

Tragedy

Wichita has a ton of construction downtown, but with big buildings comes big risk.

David Rodriguez was killed when he fell 60 ft recently. You can contribute to his GoFundMe here. He leaves behind his wife and three kids.

The World at Night

For one night only, you can check out the World at Night with Babak Tafreshi at Exploration Place on Sunday, April 19th.

Tafreshi’s work focuses on the night sky and includes some remarkable achievements, such as simultaneously photographing the night sky while an astronaut aboard the International Space Station photographs Earth at exactly the same moment.
