🌾 Old Library Renovations

And Musical Mondays in May!

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Wichita!

May the Fourth be with you today (Star Wars reference for the fans).

Let’s get to it!

-Landon

Old Library Renovation

It may have been a while since you’ve been in the old Wichita library in front of Century II, but the 1960s book haven will soon have some conceptual plans designed by Schaefer Architecture.

Together with Ideatek

We switched to Ideatek for my fiber internet service last year and haven't looked back.

Lucky for you, not only can you switch to possibly the best fiber internet service in the area, there is an added incentive...

For a limited time, new customers who use promo code EXPLORE at sign-up will receive a free install and FREE Household Membership to Exploration Place — on the house. LIMITED NUMBER AVAILABLE!

QuikTrip

Everyone loves QT. If you don’t love QT, you haven’t been to QT.

But did you know that the newest QT in Wichita at W Kellogg and 135th St will be a Gen 4 model?

Musical Mondays in May

Head out to Walker’s Jazz for every Monday in May for an open mic variety show hosted by Music Theatre Wichita’s very own Artistic Director Brian J. Marcum.

Let Him Cook

I was able to try out the Let Him Cook International Cuisine food truck at Open Streets ICT - Nomar yesterday!

Highly recommend. He features recipes from all over and it tastes incredible.

Hotcakes for Hopecare

What is better than a fat stack of hotcakes?

Hotcakes for a good cause. Come out to Jimmie’s Family Diner on Tuesday 6/23 to support GraceMed and their work in Wichita.

Making new friends as an adult can be weirdly tough. So… we’re making it easier.

WE ARE TRYING SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT FOR MAY!

We will have two different options for you:

1) On Tuesday, May 12th - everyone (yes, even you) should join us!

2) On Tuesday, May 19th - per multiple requests, this one will lean a little older for those age 55+ (no, we will not ID you)

Here’s how it works:

🍽️ Take a quick quiz about your personality, interests, and food preferences.

✨ Get matched with five other Wichitans who fit your vibe (food preferences, budget, life stage, etc.).

📍 Your table of six meets for dinner on the date you choose — the exact restaurant is revealed that morning.

🥂 After dinner, all groups are invited to a casual after-meetup to keep the conversation going.

If you’ve been wanting to meet new people in town, this might be the easiest (and most fun) way to do it.

Ballpark Development

The work has been in talks for years, but it is finally starting next month (allegedly).

There is a development into a “ballpark district” around Equity Bank Park that includes apartments, hotels, restaurants and more. It will be finished in first half of 2028.

LOCAL

Riverfest Battle of the Bands

Last week I attended my first Battle of the Bands (click that link for some nostalgia).

Riverfest hosted it at Wave where each of 23ish bands competed over two days for a cash prize and a chance to perform at the main stage of Riverfest.

Nuclear Football ended up taking home the gold. Come check em out at Riverfest this year!

Dino Fire

No, this is not a sequel to Sharknado. It is unfortunately a true story of the 100-foot Sauroposeidon 60 ton animatronic dinosaur at Field Station: Dinosaur that caught fire and is beyond repair. The fire was caused by lightning.

Mormon Temple

Kansas currently has zero Mormon temples. The first one will be opening in Wichita later this year at 51st and Meridian.

CASA of River Valley

Wichita is about supporting each other.

A med student named Alex is training for the 2027 Chicago Marathon as a fundraiser and we should support her to help the kids of CASA (of River Valley). I like to believe every dollar or intentional action we take as a community can help to better our city and the world.

Joyland Book

Dustin Ray Shannon is bringing back a taste of Joyland for the next generation with the book A Day of Joy at Joyland .

May the Fourth Be With You Trivia

Head out to Let’s Roll Seneca tonight for your shot to test our your Star Wars knowledge.

Thousands of Free Books

The 2026 Champions for Literacy book distribution will take place on Tuesday, May 5th through Friday, May 8th at 13 Wichita Public Schools. Dozens of volunteers will help share over 5,000 books with students in kindergarten through third grade to help prevent summer learning loss and encourage a love of reading.

Andover Safe Rides

Andover has been hosting some cool concerts at their new-ish Amphitheater over the last couple of years. Now they are rolling out their own Ride Share program after receiving a $30k grant.

Digitize Media

Have you heard of Melinda’s Corner? They offer video digitization of VHS tapes, DVDs, 8mm film, and Super 8 film amongst other things!

ICT EXTRA

Safest Suburbs

Mulvane was just named as the #3 safest city in Kansas. Bel Aire was #5.
