🌾 Movement Musick & The Shirkmere

Plus Shop & Grub is BACK!

Together With

Good morning, Wichita!

Thank you to everyone at The Wichita Chamber for an amazing Honors Night last night! It was great to see and meet many of you!

Let’s get to it!

Movement Musick & The Shirkmere

Musick Movement is a nonprofit founded by Chase Koch that kicked off a future musical revolution downtown when they made Somewhere Works music studio / music school at 235 N Emporia.

You might recognize the name if you haven’t been because it is right where Somewherefest takes place as well.

Now Musick Movement is looking to transform the whole block around Somewhere Works including the Shirkmere Apartments (currently empty) and a 500 to 3000 person concert hall and event venue.

The goal here is to spark and drive positive social change through music and development downtown.

Together with the Wichita Wind Surge

Wind Surge season is well underway.

Our favorite local baseball team is back next week for a home stand against Arkansas and we don’t want you to miss out on some of the promos so here is a quick run down:

  • Thursday 4/30 - Turbo Tubs Night

  • Friday 5/1 - Fireworks AND Scooby Doo Night and Halfway to Halloween

  • Saturday 5/2 - The Honkers are finally landing in Wichita! Get your own Honkers Tumbler if you’re in the first 2000 guests in the door.

  • Sunday 5/3 - Wichita Honkers return!

LOCAL BUSINESS

Opening

Closing

Tariff Refunds

This one isn’t for everyone and apparently not for coffee shops, but some businesses can apply for tariff refunds.

Haysville Incentive

Some people dream of starting their own business, but it can be hard to make the leap.

Haysville is hoping they can help make it happen by offering $20k incentives for dining businesses.

Andover should maybe take a page out of that book too.

NONPROFIT

Nomar District

The Nomar district in the north part of town is one of the coolest areas in Wichita.

And the City Council just approved $250k in improvements at 21st and Broadway - $200k for a permanent stage and $50k for public art (and shade)

Honeystack

Some people know software. Others know nonprofits. Not a lot of people are proficient at both, but my friend Ted Kriwiel is and that is why he created Honeystack. If you’re in the nonprofit space, hit up Ted.

LOCAL

Shop & Grub

One of our favorite recurring events every year is Shop & Grub. It is your monthly opportunity to get out and visit a bunch of awesome local companies selling food and clothes (including awesome vintage finds).

It kicks off this weekend on Sunday 4/26 from 11am - 4pm at Naftzger Park.

Zoo Update

For the first time since 2022, teh zoo has welcomed some Humboldt Penguin chicks. S’cute.

Tulip Festival

The final day of Tulipfest at Botanica is 4/26 (this Sunday). Come out and enjoy the spring blooms during a beautiful early Spring.

Origami in the Garden

While we’re talking Botanica, starting 5/2, come out to see Origami in the Garden which celebrates the centuries-old Japanese art of origami by reimagining it on a monumental scale.

Jazz Festival

The Wichita Jazz Festival is in full swing. Check it out today and tomorrow!

Tattoos for Change

Tattoos for a Change is tomorrow at Addictions in Ink from 11am to 6pm where money is raised to support survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

RIP Connie

Rosie the Riveter is a classic, iconic American image.

Connie Palacioz was Wichita’s real life version and a true legend. RIP to Connie who passed away at 101.
