Run Club, Board Game Club, and a few weekend events

Together with

Good morning, Wichita!

We are back with the first deep dive of the year. In case you’re new or don’t know, we write deep dives on people, places, events, history, organizations, festivals, etc.

If there is ever a topic that doesn’t interest you, just keep scrolling, we try to include something for everyone even if that is just a nugget of event info at the end.

Let's get to it!

Run Clubs

A new year means New Year’s Resolutions.

Do you set resolutions? Goals? New habits?

Maybe you want to start working out, kudos to you!

It is not a new idea, but a trend that I’ve seen popping up all over the nation are “running clubs”.

Crazy people get together on some regularly basis and go run together. It helps you get fit. You have accountability. You build comradery.

Honestly, pretty awesome way to hang out.

Wichita has a few of these and I’d love to dive in and talk a bit about these.

The ones I have seen are the Kansas Run Club in KC (IG) or various ones in cities like Austin.

These are in no specific order other than what came to mind or I found via search:

Run 316

1st Annual RUN 316 Christmas Light Run

“Run Club striving to build more health and community in Wichita with good vibes and good miles!!”

Time / Location: Location varies, but currently one of the main spots is Greater Grounds on Saturday Mornings at 8am.

Founder: Jake Jindra

“We started the run club with the mindset of improving the overall health of the Wichita community through good miles and good vibes. We wanted to create a safe place for new runners or experienced runners to come out meet new people, make connections and invest in their own health. It has been an unreal experience so far, the Wichita community has been so supportive and we’ve already gained our first sponsor which will be announced soon. Our team has had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing people, hearing the stories and having the chance to create memories together

The number of people who show up varies with the winter weather, we expect more consistency in the Spring and Summer. Our best turnout was 35 people at our 1st Annual Christmas Light run. On average however we typically have 15-20 people.

Another part of our mission is supporting local businesses by starting and ending our runs there to increase potential revenue of the business.

In the future we have goals of doing charity runs, fundraisers for local businesses and providing health workshops full of a variety of health care workers who work in Wichita to provide free education and potential services to Wichita. This will be fun as our team leaders are Physical therapists” - Jake Jindra

4mi Friday Run Club

“4 miles every Friday morning”

Time / Location: We run 4 miles at about a 10 min / mile pace 6am every Friday. Meet in front of SweatHouz in Bradley Fair.

Founder: Jacob O’Connor (Another Broken Egg Cafe) & Hunter Mitchem (SWTHZ)

“I partnered with Hunter Mitchem, owner of SWTHZ, on starting the run club because both of us are advocates of exercise and doing hard things. People who are willing to get up at 6am when it’s cold out and go run 4 miles— that’s the type of community that I want to be around. Folks that want to improve themselves. We didn’t immediately know of anyone doing this, so we decided to build the community ourselves

It’s been a blast! Sometimes Hunter brings an inflatable ice bath and we do an ice bath in the parking lot afterwards. Other times, for us SWTHZ members, we go into the studio and do the sauna and ice bath.

Our attendance ranges. We started just before Thanksgiving and then we had Christmas and New Years, so it’s hard to say. We probably average 5-6 people at the moment, but once it warms up we expect 20+

Folks that show up to the run club get a discount at Another Broken Egg Cafe + SweatHouz.” - Jacob O’Connor

Exploration Place Parkrun

“A free, weekly, timed 5k run/jog/walk on a Saturday. Open to all ages and all abilities - each week we have a Tail Walker, so you will never be last. Organized by volunteers. Join us!”

Time / Location: 8am every Saturday at Exploration Place.

“Whew! #116 was a memorable one! 53 finishers braved the alternate course (the keeper bridge was wisely closed already). There were even 4 first timers out there getting icy “ - FB page on 1/4/2025

Board Game Clubs

Maybe running isn’t your thing, so let’s go the other way to help you meet people.

These are some board game meet ups around town.

The best part of this choose your own adventure game we call life? You can do both, go for a run then go play some board games. We will cover more clubs more in depth in the future.

What do you want to see us go deep on in a future deep dive?
