Together With
Good morning, Wichita!
Today is National Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, but did you know one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet (and Wichita local) SB Mowing is multi-talented and performs in a barbershop quartet (this isn’t it, but it is a great example of his talent).
Let’s get to it!
-Landon

July is here!
Come out and make some friends!
Here’s how it works:
🍽️ Take a quick quiz about your personality, interests, and food preferences.
✨ Get matched with five other Wichitans who fit your vibe (food preferences, budget, life stage, etc.).
📍 Your table of six meets for dinner on Thursday, July 23rd — the exact restaurant is revealed that morning.
🥂 After dinner, all groups are invited to a casual after-meetup to keep the conversation going (more on that below).
If you’ve been wanting to meet new people in town, this might be the easiest (and most fun) way to do it.
This month we’re doing something a little different for the After-Party..
Instead of keeping it a secret like usual, we’ll let you in on it.
We will be continuing the after-dinner party in the All-American Club at Eck Stadium (WSU baseball) for the NBC World Series opening night! Your tickets to the game + All-American Club are comped with your dinner club ticket, so come out and enjoy an amazing view PLUS great fellowship.

Together with the City of Wichita
See a pothole? Notice a damaged street sign or a fallen tree on public property? The City of Wichita makes it easy to report issues with its free mobile app or online.
Last week alone, residents submitted 189 service requests, with potholes, tree removals, traffic signal issues, and homeless encampments among the most common.
I’ve submitted my fair share of potholes, have you ever tried?

CID Program
I didn’t know what a CID was until I read this, but the City Council just approved a CID for the Margarita’s Cantina space as well as College Hill Barber Shop.
CID = Community Improvement District where a business can be reimbursed for eligible expenses up to a specific amount.
NONPROFIT
Keeper of the Good Life
You’ve likely seen all of the 10’ tall, hand-painted Keeper of the Plains Statues. Keeper of the Good Life is Keeper #90 and was unveiled by the Wichita Wagonmasters last week in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
Exploration Place
If you haven’t noticed, Exploration Place has been a little busy lately bringing new exhibits and expanding with the Amphitheatre, Playscape and bringing in over 400,000 annual visitors the last 3 years (and expected to exceed 600,000 this year).
Adam Smith, EP’s CEO, spoke with the Wichita Business Journal about what the next five years look like.
STARTUP
NXTSTAGE Community Health & Vibrancy
NXTUS has announced the finalists for its 2026 NXTSTAGE Community Health & Vibrancy program, bringing innovative startups from across the U.S. and around the world to Wichita to pitch solutions addressing community health and economic opportunity. The program culminates with the Innovation Showcase on September 3 at the Ninth Floor Club, where finalists will present their ideas and potential pilot partnerships will be announced.

Together with YOU!
We are looking for a couple local small businesses to work with.
You know how you're reading this right now? So are thousands of other people.
Wouldn't it be awesome to get your business or event in front of thousands and thousands and thousands of people right here in Wichita? Then we need to talk.
All you have to do to get started is hit that button below to shoot me an email that you're interested in partnering up with us.

CIVIL
Construction
The Keeper of the Plains didn’t want Kellogg to have all the fun.
There is an infrastructure construction project starting this week.
Robot Dog
We saw one of those fancy dancy robot dogs at Riverfest and it is pretty cool and a little terrifying.
The City is delaying the purchase of the 2nd robot police dog until they learn a bit more from the 1st.
LOCAL
Shaq

Although the full lineup for Somewhere Fest has yet to be announced, DJ Diesel himself (that is Shaq aka Shaquille O’Neal’s DJ name) released his Summer of Shaq schedule and Wichita is on the lineup.
Hang that Banner

The AfterShocks are Wichita State’s Alumni team (plus a few others) that competes in TBT (THE Basketball Tournament) where you can win prize money. Oh and they won a million dollars last summer.
The TBT returns to Koch Arena in a week and will be hanging a banner in the Arena on July 20th!
New Sister City
Wichita has a number of sister cities as we touched on in a past deep dive.
Chihuahua, Mexico is about to join the ranks of Kaifeng, China; Orleans, France; Cancun, Mexico and Tlalnepantla de Baz, Mexico
Swim Lessons
Kids and water is a summer tradition and can be very fun for everyone, but can also be scary.
Since 2020, drowning rates have been rising emphasizing the importance of swim lessons or ISR.
NCAA Openings Rounds
Wichita will once again host opening round games for NCAA Men’s D1 basketball for March Madness. It was so fun the last time and I can’t wait to see people come out.
Vandalism
This is why we can’t have nice things.
We have cool, niche, dedicated organizations like the Great Plains Transportation Museum and then some idiots go and cause $10,000 worth of damage. Idiots.* (I had the link wrong last week, here is the correct one).
Trump Accounts
I don’t cover politics here (for a number of reasons), but I did want everyone to know that the new Trump Accounts are available and your kids may be eligible for some free investment money or at the very least some tax-advantaged investment accounts.
