Say Goodbye to a Legend

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Wichita!

Welcome to the Wichita Life Update, the email that is like coming off of a spring break where we had a 95 degree day in March.

Let’s get to it!

Goodbye, Old Friend

The Popcorner

Every once in a while, Wichita gets a character you just can’t make up and for quite a while, that was the turkey at Greenwich & Central.

Known as Tom, Pablo, Felicia, Gobblers, GG…depending on who you asked, he wasn’t just a bird. He was a full-blown local icon. Holding up traffic, chasing cars, and somehow surviving one of the busiest intersections on the east side, he gave us all something to talk about on an otherwise normal day.

This week, Wichita lost that unlikely celebrity.

It’s a little absurd, a little funny, and somehow a little sad, but that’s kind of the beauty of it. In a city our size, even a rogue turkey can bring people together. Rest easy, king of Greenwich & Central. You truly lived your life to the fullest.

Battle of the Bands

CASA of Sedgwick County is hosting the 3rd annual  Battle of the Bands at WAVE in Wichita to support children in foster care.

Local bands will compete live while attendees help choose the winner, all to raise funds and awareness for CASA’s mission of advocating for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. This event is especially meaningful as they celebrate 45 years of service in our community.

Driving Fore Change

An afternoon of fun with a purpose is coming to Wichita. Driving Fore Change is a Topgolf tournament supporting children in foster care, happening April 9 from 12–4 PM at Topgolf Wichita. Hosted by EmberHope, Gathered, and CASA of Sedgwick County, the event brings the community together for golf, connection, and impact.

SPOTLIGHT

We want to put the spotlight on some special individuals in Wichita, but I also know there are many people doing incredible things that I just don’t know about.

That’s where you come in.

Driving on Kellogg

It has come to my attention that people think others in Wichita cannot drive correctly.

So what do you think, is there a passing lane on Kellogg?

Breaking Barriers with Ballet Wichita

If you’re looking for something a little different (and a little more meaningful) to do next weekend, Breaking Barriers from Ballet Wichita is worth a spot on your calendar.

Happening April 3–4 at the B-29 Doc Hangar, this contemporary ballet blends movement with Wichita’s history—featuring original works inspired by the Dockum Drug Store Sit-In and the influential women who helped shape our city.

It’s not just a performance either (thanks to partnerships with local museums), you’ll get context and storytelling as you walk in, making the whole experience feel more immersive than your typical night at the ballet.
