Let’s get to it!

Finding Titanic

The Titanic is a story that has captivated people for generations.

But did you know that the man who found the Titanic was from Wichita?

Dr. Robert Ballard discovered the sunken ship and now Exploration Place has an exhibit called Finding Titanic: The Secret Mission.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Opening

Derby Shores

Every now and then, a project comes along and you think “yeah…that’s not going to happen”.

Derby Shores is one of those projects.

But every now and then, I’m wrong (a lot more often than that to be honest).

Derby Shores is breaking ground next week on the 4-acre lagoon and mixed-use destination.

Chester’s Expansion

There are a handful of restaurants in Wichita that I would call the nicest spots in town.

Chester’s Chophouse is one of the nicest spots and they’re about to expand.

STARTUP

Courtney Bengston

Courtney has been a friend for years. She was also a huge supporter of Wichita Life personally and trying to find ways to help us out through the Wichita Foundation.

After 12 years at the foundation, she has branched off on her own to start Cambr to help nonprofits who need help in specific ways and with her experience, I can’t think of anyone better to help with this.

NONPROFIT

Summer Kickoff Celebration

VELA, Learning Lab, WISE (Wichita Innovative Schools & Educators), and Lily Lake are partnering for a Free Family Day at Botanica Gardens on June 3rd.

This is a great time to learn about alternative or Indie education opportunities in Wichita.

It is free, but registration is required and comes with a free lunch.

Bicycle Friendly Business Designation

The deadline to apply is coming up on June 3rd, but now is your chance to sign your business up to be bicycle friendly.

CIVIL

Tag Office Woes

Long lines at the Sedgwick County tag office are the new normal.

Summer Food Program

The Summer Food Program is back!

Free breakfasts and lunches will be offered at 33 locations as part of the WPS Summer Food Program. The Summer Food program runs May 27 – July 24, 2026.  The free meals are available to all children ages 1 - 18, not just WPS students or students who qualify for free/reduced meals.

LOCAL

AfterShocks

The AfterShocks were the belle of the ball last summer during TBT (The Basketball Tournament) where they took home the crown and million dollar prize.

Now they will look to defend the crown in a new format that will be winner-take-all for $2 million.

The first round best-of-three series will start against the New Mexico Alumni team.

Local Virality

Kristin may be known for skating, but she went viral for her rejection therapy side quest.

Iconic Branding

If you had to name one person in Wichita who knows about branding, logos, and design, you’d like come up with Bill Gardner’s name.

Bill just wrote a book called Iconic Branding and will be doing an author event at Watermark Books & Cafe on May 28th!

Kansas Guidebook

Kansas has more to offer than most people realize.

Luckily there are resources like the Kansas Guidebook that can help you find all the best places to visit and explore.

Garden tour

Mark your calendar for the popular Garden Tour from June 5 - 7th!

Fun Airport Story

I randomly follow this guy on Twitter / x and came across this cool story that happened in the Wichita airport.

High School Basketball

2028 will look a little different for Kansas HS basketball. For the first time, all sites for semifinal and final state basketball will be in Wichita from Koch Arena at WSU to Heartland Federal Credit Union in Park City to the Garvey Center at Friends and more.

Disc Golf

KMUW just did a story on Disc Golf in the Wichita area. I recently met Scott Dyer at a Rotary Club and love that there are people so passionate about different niches.

It might be time for a Deep Dive on the disc golf scene in Wichita.

Best places to Live in Kansas

Apparently we’re #6 on the list of best places to live in Kansas, take a look. If you can’t read that one, learn how to read the Wichita Eagle for free.

GoBabyGo

I never participated in this program (because I’m too old), but I’m a proud WSU alum because the GoBabyGo program is celebrating 10 years!

Park Upgrades

Three suburbs are ramping up their park scene - Derby, Goddard, and Kechi.
