🌾 Early Bird Gets the Worm

Or the Riverfest Button

Together With

Good morning, Wichita!

5 years ago this Sunday, my life changed forever when I became a dad.

Happy birthday to our oldest who gave me the best job in the world.

Also I guess that means I’m one year closer to her driving herself to school.

Let's get to it!

- Landon

p.s. Thank you to everyone who made it out to Learning Lab Wichita last night for the party, we had a blast!

Early Bird Buttons

Wichita Riverfest is one of the best and longest running traditions in Wichita.

One thing people get hung up on is the price (regular price is $20 for adults, $15 for kids). Trust me, I know, EVERYTHING is expensive these days.

Starting today (4/11) and running through 4/26, you can get early bird buttons at a discount - $15 for adults, $10 for kids (children under 5 are free).

Head down to the Wichita Festivals office at 444 E William Street (or buy online) to get your early bird buttons!

Regular button sales at participating Wichita, El Dorado, Newton, and Derby QuikTrip's will be available May 2, 2025.

Yes, we have a partnership with Riverfest, but we really just want you to save 5 bucks.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Opening

Office Vacancy

I can’t say I’m familiar with these words, but 300,000 sq-ft of “net absorption” of office space last year sounds like a good thing.

Q1 of 2025 showed 16,000 sq-ft of absorption.

We seem to be trending in the right direction.

#WichitaLife

@ksn | There was a fire near the Orpheum, but it appears the historic building was safe from damage.

If you’ve ever been to CBD Plus, you’ve probably seen Tall Tree Society.

Tall Trees is a brand a good friend of mine created and they now are doing online sales!

Walk and a Whiskey?

Would you like a walk and a whiskey? A stroll and a soda? A meander and a margarita? A jog and a gin? A saunter and a sangria?

A common consumption area could be in the cards for Delano which means you could walk amongst the area with an alcoholic beverage, like between the Monarch and a Wind Surge game.

LOCAL

Open Streets ICT

Open Streets ICT is BACK this Sunday 4/13 from noon to 4pm on 17th Street from Oliver to Volutsia.

This is the WSU & Shocker Neighborhood version, not to be confused with the Douglas version.

Not only is this event free, but it is a great chance to get out and explore a street, safely and have some good ole family fun.

Mental Health Hospital

A new $110 million state-run mental hospital broke ground yesterday at Meridian and MacArthur down in SW Wichita. It will have 104 beds with half the beds for acute cases and the other half used for evaluations to speed up court processes.

Performing Arts

It is tough to keep up with everything going on with performing arts in Wichita, so here is a quick run down:

  • This weekend is the Christian Performance Theatre version of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at AMAC with shows tonight and tomorrow.

  • The Orpheum and Music Theatre Wichita have struck up a partnership. Not only does the MTW production of Crazy for You shares a thematic connection with The Orpheum's current restoration, but for each ticket purchased for Crazy for You with code ORPHEUM25 - $4 will be donated to the Orpheum’s restoration fund!

Alzheimer's Association of Central and Western Kansas

Drink for a Cause- 14 bars and restaurants have each come up with a special drink for Alzheimer's.  Every time you order one of the drinks, they will give a percentage of the price back to Alzheimer's for every drink purchased.

Buffalo Wild Wings- For the month of April, if you mention The Alzheimer's Association, 10% of your check will to the Alzheimer's Association. (All three local Buffalo Wild Wings locations will be participating.)

WSU Pickleball

The new pickleball courts at Wichita State are officially open as of yesterday!

Cessna Stadium

Cessna Stadium doesn’t host WSU football games anymore, but it is a track and field destination.

It is also under construction with bleachers being installed that should be completed by mid-may.

There could even potentially be a women’s soccer team in the future.
