Congrats to Harvester Arts who has been awarded an $80,000 multi-year program support grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts as part of its Fall 2025 grant cycle, making it the only Kansas-based organization selected nationwide.

The funding will support artist-centered contemporary visual arts programming in Wichita during 2026–27, strengthening exhibitions, public projects, visiting-artist programs, and professional development.

CIVIL

Nominations Open for Excellent Public Service Employees

Nominations are now open for the 38th annual Excellence in Public Service Award, honoring outstanding employees from the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, and Wichita Public Schools who go above and beyond in serving the community.

Residents can submit nominations online through 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, with honorees selected by a public-private committee and celebrated this spring with a cash award that will increase to $3,500 in 2026.

Wichita Public Schools

There are four elementary schools in the Wichita school district that could be closing as early as next school year due to age and costly repairs (L’Ouverture, OK, Pleasant Valley and Woodland elementary schools).

One Percent Sales Tax Vote

We avoid politics here, but we do also want everyone to be informed, so here is your update:

  • There will be a special election on March 3rd to vote on the 1% sales tax increase proposal

  • There is a sales tax proposal discussion scheduled at the upcoming January 27th workshop meeting
