It is that time of year to familiarize yourself with the 79 snow plows that keep us all and our streets safe. ❄️

Rooftop Bar in Delano

Travis Heying/The Wichita Eagle

Wichita Brewing Company is bridging the gap between their east and west side locations with WBC Delano aka WBC 2.0 that will include a rooftop patio. It will also include an outdoor beer garden and event venue down the road.

The goal is to have it open in February, just in time for the famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Delano.

It will be located where Spektrum Muzic used to operate before moving a couple of years ago.

As we kick off 2025, we want to go back to our roots and that includes putting a spotlight on the people of Wichita who make our city a special place.

We were about to attempt to put together a one-stop shop for volunteering opportunities in Wichita, but (lucky for us) it has already been done!

Death and Taxes

Nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.

You may have heard that Kansas state sales tax on groceries is eliminated starting in 2025 and this is true, but there is more to it than that.

1/1/2023 - the state sales and use tax rate on foo dand food ingredients (and certain prepared food) was reduced from 6.5% to 4.5%
1/1/2024 - state sales tax rate reduced to 2.0%
1/1/2025 - state sales tax rate will be reduced to 0.0%

You do still pay taxes though, such as a local (county) sales tax.

Joan of Arc

The original statue of Joan of Arc, a copy of a statue sculpted by Princess Marie d’Orleans, the youngest daughter of King Louis-Phillipe the First, which stands in the palace of Versailles, is now on display in the lobby of Wichita City Hall at455 N. Main.

The original statue was gifted to the City of Wichita in 1970 in gratitude for the liberation of Orleans during World War II and in honor of Wichita’s centennial celebration that year.

College Hill Mail

There are two blocks in the historic neighborhood of College Hill that no longer hav email service.

The mail service put a stop to this area after 3 mailmen were charged by a dog.

Betty Boop

People really need to stop stealing statues in Wichita.

First there was Jackie Robinson who was found in rough shape, but luckily a new one was made.

Then there was the Michelin Man from Pumphouse downtown who was returned.

Now Betty Boop was stolen from Station 8 and after a $500 reward was offered (with a $500 bonus from our friend EB), she was returned.

Anybody got eyes on The Keeper of the Plains?

Jackie Robinson

Speaking of the Jackie Robinson statue, there is a new documentary called More Like Jackie to highlight our community and how they rallied around League 42. Great job to Jaime Green, Travis Heying, and the Eagle staff.
